niece jadey bug's birthday party + target

my little lady bug turned four!
i cannot believe it.
she had the cutest birthday party mitch and lindsay threw her.
the theme was the hungry caterpillar.
she had a picnic, games, little snacks a hungry caterpillar would eat, pinata and decorating of butterflies.
i didn't take the best pictures but here are a few...
it was so funny; the kids wanted pieces of the pinata after it fell apart so my sister elise was breaking apart pieces!
asher is the man and getting HUGE!
the cousins played right before we left.
this picture makes me smirk.

from the two minute drive (literally a mile away) from their house to target, jack asked if he could take a nap. i told him to wait a few more hours until bed time.
at target he went under the cart where he usually
likes to hang out while i shop...
and then i noticed he was a little too quiet.
he was out.
within minutes.
needless to say, he stayed up that night almost until 10 pm, defying all odds of possible bedtimes and records he's been close to.
it was a great day!

itty bitty update

so much goes on during the week that it's hard for me to recap it all. in a nutshell, i'm a busy person. i find this busyness to be "first world problems" since they are nothing like not being able to eat, or have a roof over our heads or blankets to keep us warm so i have nothing to complain about. however when the days and weeks turn into nights and weekends in a blink i would like to know where that time has gone and how i can retrieve it. until i find this resolution, i have decided to put my health in the backseat... yep, this backseat

and drink a diet coke from time to time.

my friend and i stay on time of each other to not get these so i had to turn myself in and confess of my foul.

this week one of our salon owner's taught a GREAT GREAT long layers class that i snapped a quick shot. i thought i knew it all with long layers but this guy (celebrity stylist) showed me a thing or two i can't wait to try. weaving the scissors in between the layers with the razor and such! so fun! he loved that i caught him in his "i heart barcelona" shirt. :)
my model was the cat's meow!
guess who decided he would like to be done with karate?
you betcha.

jack doesn't want to finish out his last week of karate... along with about three of his classmates. i don't blame him however. his sun sai is a little tough and picks on little jack often so i gave him some slack. we went to the health nut store around the corner and i bought him a cranberry granola cookie the size of his head!

he is a tired buddy. i love it when he falls asleep while i tickle his back next to me when i read.

jack and i made this little home of blocks. the details of each place we made are intricate. the bad guys are in one spot, the dinos are in another, the superheros are over in another section and so forth. he gets so carried away until he is so tired.
brace yourself: if you don't like blood, stop scrolling down.
brady always has interesting weeks but this week has been especially fascinating. his patient was in a car accident... this is his before and after picture. he is so talented and so clean with each of his patients. i love the detail he puts into each patient's case. they are lucky to be in his care.

name change

usually i blog on sunday nights or monday mornings for most of the week. i came across this day in my iphoto and just thought to myself this was just a plain 'ole day but one in my books as a special one.

i was doing laundry and he was doing his homework. he had to write his name three times. he expressed his desire for a name change stating JACK would be much easier and quicker to write his whole life rather than JACKSON. i feel ya, i feel ya. JACK it is.

now get back to your otter pop and stay out of your head for now. pretty, pretty please.
stay five forever, will ya?

A 1

it's always good to stay humble but i must say, my oh my do we lundquist siblings have very talented in-laws that married into the family. remember my post about my brother-in-law DREW's scrabble game that was posted all over design blogs world-wide? well, hasbro has snatched him up and will be producing two prototypes of his design! one will go in the nicer stores and the other one will be sold for $50 at barnes and noble. gizmodo has a great article about it here and here.

there is a pre-sale order for these games that come out in august here. it will be signed, sealed and delivered. we are all ecstatic for him and elise with this great news and accomplishment! congratulations!

good life

we have been on the go and busy like usual.
life is really good!
here is a glimpse into pieces of our days lately according to my phone:

new park!
there is one of the coolest parks a mile from where we live! it couldn't be more perfect, clean and pretty. i took jack there thinking he would become uninterested within 15 minutes but we ended up climbing, swinging and finding fun things to do there until the sun went down.
{he had been saving this soda for a while. i told him he could have it when the new park was up}
we still had energy so we checked out what lowe's had to offer in fun and entertainment for the evening.
they did their job.
they sell plants that make blueberries? we are sold. done.
jack picked out an elephant bush.
can't wait to plant this succulent with this schweetie.

i'll explain this one...

my friend says, "try this self-tanner. you are the whitest i've ever seen you."
i put it on, and then fell asleep.
result. it's a week later and i'm still tie-die ernie. :)

cute brady tried his first artichoke outside of a dip last week when i made him dinner.
he was so funny when i looked over and his mouth had four leaves in it. he was concerned how leafy it tasted.
love this guy!
matt, the CEO of YIMPS shorts asked me to do some art directing, prop managing, talent coordinating and more for a shoot we finished on monday. i'm pretty happy with it and also happy it's all done! so much time and planning goes into a simple shoot. we had the talented ryan bunker as the main photographer, calvin muusse and kevin clark from modern, Modern Voyage, all the celebrity stylists from Serandi and Dennis Lee, also Summer Thacker who did the wardrobe styling, as well as Motiv Electric Bikes there delivering a truck full of bikes. such a busy day but good day!

i did some shopping for all the models and talent.
they were all pretty happy about the food.

i also ended up doing hair and makeup for the models.
i stick my tongue out when i'm really concentrating..
my least attractive subconscious pet peeve i can call my own. whatcanyado?
i also ended up getting in the 50-degree water for one of the looks to help the models get on the inflatable mattress. none of the girls would go out because of the numbing cold pain but i'm not too worried about it. i'd rather keep their hair and makeup looking good.
i'll post more pictures when i get the edited ones.

lastly,
i feel very grown-up going to parent-teacher-conferences.
do i think i'm young but i'm actually old or am i thinking i'm old by going but i'm really young?
i guess it brings you back to that perspective of the glass being full or empty.
jack has a great teacher who loves him dearly. so sweet.
she said such nice things about him that i cannot take credit for. he really has found himself to be a sweet little boy who wants to learn. it's just kindergarten but he is being set up for success.

she said he is intelligent, social and gets bored when he isn't given a challenge.
i've got my work cut out for me and i'm happy for it. this will be a fun twelve more years at the least of schooling.

that's all i have for now.

escondido falls hike

on saturday we wanted to do a new hike in los angeles.
i'm all about waterfalls and climbing rocks. you mix those two and i'm climbing cloud nine! this escondido falls hike was just that. it began with very crowded parking, then walking up a hill into a residential area full of estates that you can only dream of. we both thought we could walk back but kept going to the trail part over the hill. it was gorgeous! trees draping over the trail, a creek next to us and the smell of the outdoors all around us. we came to the first waterfall and we weren't too impressed. it smelled like the sulfur baths we dipped into in november but worse!
we didn't give up... i remembered the reviews i read about two other waterfalls so we kept up the mountain with a few ropes. so rugged! the second waterfall was pretty but the rocks were bigger and looked like they needed to be climbed so we did.
the next waterfall was coming from a bigger rock from the top of the mountain and was beautiful! it smelled fresh and had moss covering the exterior. w
e took a few pictures,
trying to get a keeper. it was only 4.2 miles total and so easy. on the way down i had an itch to run so i took off and brady went a different way through the estates since he was in jean shorts and running wasn't an option. i ended up talking to a few couples at the top of the trail who wanted to know about the trail and snapped this shot of this random guy. i am showing it only because it came out kind of cool, showing how pretty this day was!
somehow we met up right in time on the road! it was so fun!
i love that brady enjoys 'them outdoors with me.

i didn't take many pictures from the rest of the day but we had acai bowls in venice, went to the beach, saw the lorax, had falafel, then had diddy reese for our first time together near UCLA. since i can't indulge in their cookies and technically not their ice cream, i tried their sundaes anyway. dairy schmary.
it was such a great day. i don't think we have ever had a boring weekend.
