i am laying down, finally after a long motha's day. well, a long weekend to be exact; in a few pretty states that are fun to visit but could never live in, doing way too much, missing jack, sleeping in beds that weren't mine...
i hope all of you had a wonderful mother's day with or without your mothers or as mothers or however it may have been. throughout the day i had some time to think. i couldn't stop thinking... i wonder if this day is hard for a portion of people. like the people who have had their mothers pass on. or the mothers who have lost their children in war. or the women who want to be mothers but are infertile. or the many mothers who have miscarried one, two, three + babies. or the mothers that carried their children in their tummies only to find out they would need to deliver a still-born. or the women who gave their children up for adoption but no one knows they have given birth. or the mothers like me and some of my friends that have given birth to their child and then that child only lives hours to a couple of days, months, or a few years... only having motherhood for what feels like a moment, then stolen from us.

last week after preschool he gave me a flip-book he spent hours making me with his picture on the front. inside it had the following:
your moms eyes are: green and her hair is: black
your favorite dinner your mom makes is: noodles and spaghetti
your favorite game to play with your mommy is: hide and seek
you love your mommy because she is: pretty and nice
draw a picture of your mommy: {he drew a picture of a triangle with a face on top with long hair}
i have had the funnest time parenting jackson. he loves to cuddle. he loves to be kind to others. he loves to read books. he likes to compliment others. he likes to wrestle. he belly laughs. he can throw down red swedish fish with me in five minutes like it's no big deal. he lets me rush him around to all the places we go and is always a great sport about it. he loves to fish. he enjoys learning about what makes his body stronger and healthier. he loves the gospel already. he loves his little family...
one part of parenting jackson is playing the discipline role. i knew this would be hard for me as i am a softy for sure. there is a website that cracks me up called passive aggressive notes. i decided that if i continue to have clever children as jackson has been, i will not progress in my disciplining. especially if one of my kids write me notes like this:
i have been extremely blessed to have a great mother as a solid example in my life. she has always been so giving, so thoughtful, so concerned and much more. she still is a constant in my life... willing to help me in any way she possibly can. i'm so grateful for her. it was great to be with her for a few hours even if it was for a little bit of dinner and then sharing some mud pie and the show house.
i am also so grateful for my grandmothers. i have three! they are all still alive and keep great touch with me. they have taught me how to camp, how to shop, how to love, how to dress up, how to ride a horse, how to surf, how to put on red lipstick, how to relax at the spa, how to golf, how to sleep like princesses are suppose to, how to build a bonfire, how to climb haystacks, how to bake for massive amounts of people, how to collect fancy dolls, how to love asian art, how to wear dresses, how to fake a spanish accent, how to wear a fireman's hat, how to scream when driving in a tunnel and the best way to help the homeless... they are incredible and beautiful women.
i wanted to mention one more plug....
this is a long post...
so i have this amazing friend who has talents under every sleeve.
her name is aubrey messick. you probably have heard of her because she does every wedding i know of.
she is so great.
she did amazing floral arrangements for mother's day the other day and i loved them! if you have a moment, totally check out her new website devoted to her designs. she can do anything your heart can think of. she and i were featured in the REAL + SIMPLE WEDDINGS edition for 2010 for a wedding in there for her floral arrangements... she did such a fabulous job. it's so fun seeing her at so many weddings and i am pretty sure i will be seeing her during the weekends this busy summer.
okay, tuckered out.
nighty night.
